This is a silver tankard (total weight 690-700 grams), likely crafted by melting down the coins themselves.
The tankard is adorned with gold coins and features a handle topped with a crowned lion decoration, with lion-shaped feet completing the piece.
Coins:
- Ten 1-ducat coins, also known as “ducatini,” minted by the Austrian mint, Münze Österreich.
The Austrian gold ducat is a very light coin, weighing only 3.490 grams, of which 3.442 grams are gold, with a purity of 98.61%. Its diameter is 20 millimeters.
The obverse depicts Emperor Franz Joseph wearing a laurel wreath, surrounded by the inscription: FRANC IOS I D G AUSTRIAE IMPERATOR.
The reverse shows the Austrian shield superimposed on the crowned double-headed eagle, encircled by the inscription: HUNGAR BOHEM GAL LOD ILL REX A A 1915, celebrating the emperor’s reign over Bohemia, Hungary, and other territories.
Although minted from 1831 to 1915, all surviving specimens bear the date 1915, as every restrike was dated to that year regardless of the actual minting date.
The Austrian gold ducat is highly sought after by collectors (approximately €400) due to its historical significance during the Austro-Hungarian Empire's dominance in Europe. - Two medallions made up of 4-ducat coins (known as “Ducatone”) featuring Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria, King of Bohemia and Hungary.
This coin has a diameter of 40 mm; the obverse displays the emperor’s effigy, while the reverse depicts the Austrian double-headed eagle.
The coin is also dated 1915 and weighs 13.96 grams.
